Routine post-operative FEES? Could it be the future of the SLP role in the CVICU? According to my most recent guest on SYP, that may be the reality sooner rather than later!
CVICUs can be an intimidating unit full of lines and machines and tenuous, critically ill patients, but Lexy Myres is sharing her experience of overcoming the overwhelm and forging her own path into the CVICU to provide vital services to improve the outcomes for this population. Lexy works as a valuable member of the CVICU team in her facilities and gives us her first-hand experience of establishing an SLP presence in this unit, building relationships, showing the value of SLP services, and strengthening the interdisciplinary team as an SLP!
She shares her process for chart review that helps her to assess the entire patient and the research that has helped her develop her method.
